Article from August 1990 issue of Prix Editions

A tribute to the Italian with 200 Grands Prix to his credit - a man who, in 1990, has become a race winner once more

"Given the choice, I'd rather hold the record for victories or World Championships. But those 200 Grands Prix represent 14 years in F1 - 14 seasons in which team managers have shown faith in me. I started in F1 in 1977, at 22. I've never been without a drive, never failed to qualify."

"Why shouldn't make it 250? I don't feel like a Formula One veteran yet. I'm simply the most experienced man in the field, and that's not at all the same thing."

"Until 1984 F1 governed my whole life. Some people are happy when the sun shines, sad when it rains. I was like that: a smile on my face after a good race, in a black mood after every bad one. And at that time there were rather more of the latter..."

"If I had to keep just one memory of my 14 years, it would be the turbo engine. Having over 1,000 horses at your back was an unforgettable feeling."

"Today I'm right where I wanted to be when I started out in F1: at the top."

"Never before have I been within touching distance of my dream. Maybe it won't happen this year, but I know I'm heading in the right direction. I'm in no hurry. F1 has taught me patience..."
